Passengers are expected to witness a reduction in transportation fares from Monday December 19, 2022.

There has been a reduction in fuel prices at some pumps from Friday December 16, 2022. Diesel is selling at Ghc15 per litre while petrol has dropped to Ghc12.5 others too Ghc13 per litre.

The debatable topic out there is “ Despite the reduction on fuel prices, transportation fares have not been reduced but Ghanaians are still ongoing to look into the call for fares reduction.
The drivers out there are also making a statement that “ although the current decrease and increase of fuel and the prices of spare parts, lubricants respectively is making the reduction of fares very impossible.

Hassan Tampuli, the Deputy Transport Minister stated and assured Ghanaians on an interview with Citi News that, there will be in transport fares on Monday.

We understand that the fares will definitely come down. It’s a margin of reduction that we are still negotiating. We are waiting for the next pricing window. So when the new prices are announced, we will see the clearest picture and we will see the percentage margin for the reduction of fares. We do not have the full picture until the window opens. Hopefully by Monday the general public should see a reduction in transport fares.

On the other hand, General secretary of the Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU) Godfred Abulbire has also hinted that Ghanaians should expect reduction in fares in the coming days.
